Last week I already shared a link to a preliminary version of this paper by Ronny Kohavi, Alex Deng and Lukas Vermeer, describing common misunderstandings in online controlled experiments. Ronny Kohavi is now organizing a virtual presentation and discussion of this paper (June 23rd at 8AM PST). All alumni and new joiners of his A/B testing class will be invited. Another reason to join.
This CUPED (Controlled-experiment using pre-experiment data) technique removes variance in a metric by using pre-experiment information. With this variance reduction you increase power to detect a small effect.

💬 Quote of the week
Feeling tired? Dr. Matthew Walker (Director of the Center for Human Sleep Science and author of the book Why We Sleep) talks in this podcast about the importance of sleep and shares this simple experiment to see what the effect is on:
"Try giving yourself one week of 8 hours of sleep (per night) and see if you feel any better. Just give it as a self-improvement test, try it as a hack. If you are one of those people who are into the quantified self movement and you are into self-experimentation, then test out all of what you have just heard. And just determine if you feel any better." — Matthew Walker
