1. State of Machine Learning
In this keynote presentation, Frank Chen, a partner at venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz, shares examples of machine learning applications that can make humanity better off. Instead of the constant claim of "AI is taking our jobs", Chen argues that bringing AI in the hands of humans will benefit us all. [watch presentation]
2. Companies are struggling to become data-driven
A survey of 64 executives (mostly from financial organizations) found that many companies are struggling to become more data-driven: "... 93% of respondents identify people and process issues as the obstacle. Clearly, the difficulty of cultural change has been dramatically underestimated ...". [read more]
3. Free tutorial on Causal Inference
"As computing systems are more frequently and more actively intervening to improve people's work and daily lives, it is critical to correctly predict and understand the causal effects of these interventions." Randomized experiments are the gold standard here, but there other methods to make causal inferences. [read more]
4. Perverse incentives create perverse behavior
